Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel



From 1926 to 1950, the American Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel British formed the most famous movie comedy duo: Laurel and Hardy.

The two comedians first worked together in the silent film The Lucky Dog (1921). After a period appearing separately in several short films, they started performing together in 1926. Laurel and Hardy officially became a double the following year and soon became the most profitable stars Hal Roach.

His films are classics of silent film comedy. Oliver Hardy, Laurel - round face and jovial, with a thin mustache - and his sidekick, Stan Laurel, the Thin Man - clumsy, a long face and flashing eyes - were masters of the representation of the absurd. Disputes and persecutions, showing the chaotic side of everyday life.

The comic won several Oscars and in 1960 received a statuette by the whole career.

Oliver Hardy was on the morning of September 14, 1956 a stroke that left his body immobilized and died on August 7, 1957. Stan Laurel died of a heart attack on February 23, 1965.

Charlie Chaplin

Charles Spencer Chaplin, better known as Charlie Chaplin, was an actor, director, producer, comedian, dancer, writer and British musician. Chaplin was one of the most famous actors of the silent film era, distinguished themselves by the use of mime and slapstick comedy.

His most famous character Carlitos was the straggler, oppressed and funny, this character denounced social injustice. Smart and funny, this great artist knew how to laugh and also cry.

His career in the entertainment lasted over 75 years since their first performances as a child in theaters in the United Kingdom during the Victorian era almost until his death at 88 years of age.

The last two Chaplin films were produced in London: A King in New York (1957) in which he starred, wrote, directed and produced, and A Countess from Hong Kong (1967), which he directed, produced and wrote.

Carmen Miranda




Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha, better known as Carmen Miranda, was a singer and Luso-Brazilian. His artistic career spent in Brazil and the United States between the 1930s and 1950s. He worked in radio, vaudeville theater, film and television.

Carmen was the first multimedia artist from Brazil. Talented, not only sang, danced and acted, but I knew intuitively move with ease through what would become the cultural industry.

Unique to the movement of the hands and hips and rolling green eyes, a stylized Bahia, with trinkets, her mouth painted red, always smiling and as imitated, loved and parodied in every corner of the world.

When Carmen Miranda in 1939, embarked in Rio de Janeiro and arrived at the port of New York, was a distinguished unknown to the American public. It took him but a month to win the World Fair, Broadway and extraordinary popularity. Then came the invitation from the movies.

Heitor Villa Lobos





Heitor Villa-Lobos was a Brazilian composer and conductor.
It is noteworthy for being the main responsible for the discovery of a language peculiarly Brazilian music, is considered the greatest exponent of the music of modernism in Brazil

Heitor Villa-Lobos became known as a revolutionary who caused a break with academic music in Brazil. His travels through the interior of the country influenced his compositions.

In 1903, Villa-Lobos finished the basic studies in the Monastery of St. Benedict. I used to join the groups of crying, playing guitar at parties and serenades.

In 1915, Villa-Lobos conducted the first concert with his compositions. At that time, had already composed his first pieces for guitar. In 1919, he performed in Buenos Aires, with the String Quartet No 2. The week of Modern Art in 1922.

Since returning from Europe, the genius of Villa-Lobos was to incorporate the artistic and cultural heritage of Brazil. His compositions excite European and American audiences.

Recognized as a musical genius, he received all sorts of tributes, stripped with kings and heads of state met in life and glory to glory died on November 17, 1959, in Rio de Janeiro.

Thanksgiving day


The Day of Thanksgiving stands out in the holidays because it can be celebrated by just about everyone. He is not tied to a specific religion and people can celebrate it the way you want. The only essential traditions are to a meal with friends or family and give thanks for what you have. In the world of holidays, Thanksgiving Day is the most simple and pure as possible.

It is the day observed as "a day of thanksgiving" to God for the good events (the harvest) during the year. On this day, people give thanks with feasting and family prayer. Most people celebrate the day after Thanksgiving gathering with family and friends to a traditional banquet.

One curiosity: one of the most important symbols of Thanksgiving Day, the cornucopia, actually dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. The term (generally describing a horn-shaped vase with fruits, flowers and other goodies) comes from the Latin cornu copy, which literally means "horn of plenty." In Greek mythology, the cornucopia is a goat's horn, was cursed by Zeus to produce an infinite amount of whatever the owner desires.

The Thanksgiving Day today has its origins in U.S. history.

Panamerican games - mascots


Since 1997, the Pan American Games has been going for 4 in 4 years and in every organization of the games is like a mascot to symbolize the event. Usually the mascot aims to represent the hostcountry or city through culture, flora, fauna, traditional costumes,dances and everything that reminds the country chosen.

This year, the Pan American Games, which began on 14/10/2011at Guadalajara in Mexico, pets are Hiuchi (Doe), Leo (cat), Gavo(species of cactus blue).

Tradition that started in the World Cup in England in 1996 and theninvaded the Olympic Winter Games 1968 in Grenoble, France,soon became a mascot of sports events and fads of the Pan American Games came a decade later, in games in San Juan in 1979. Since then, various animals and other beings has been the representatives of the host countries of the event.
